Journeys in Our Disappearing World
by Gary Mancuso
The Last Places on Earth
Venezuela August 2007
Most photos here from the huge wetlands area of the Los Llanos Plains in Central Venezuela. This is an area that is seasonally divided between a rainy and dry season. During the wet season the plains of Los Llanos become a vast regions of interlocking lakes. The region is known for its prolific land animal and bird life. My journey in Venezuela was quite interesting, sobering and included a bit of danger, as I saw first hand the deleterious effects of the authoritarian regime of Hugo Chavez. If you would like to share this experience with me, read my story, Traveling Venezuela: Danger, Corruption, Beautiful Nature
